Kleinberg Lopez Lange Cuddy & Klein LLP

is a law firm which specializes in entertainment and media transactions on a worldwide basis.

The firm has grown from its establishment in 1992 to its present size of ten attorneys. The firm has offices on the 31st floor of The Century Park Plaza in the Century City area of Los Angeles adjacent to Beverly Hills and Westwood.

We provide advice and counsel to a broad range of clients who create, produce, finance, distribute and render services in the production, marketing and distribution of entertainment product. In the traditional areas of entertainment law—motion pictures, television, music and publishing—our clients include leading actors, authors and writers, directors, producers, composers, musical artists, motion picture and scripted and reality television production companies, international and domestic film, television, video and interactive distributors and broadcasters, music publishers, corporate executives, literary and talent agents and managers. We represent leading companies which use and apply high technology, such as computer-generated imagery (CGI), digital imaging, large format film exhibition and distribution, the production of mechanical and visual effects, the design and creation of theme park attractions and urban and location-based entertainment centers, pay-per-view motion picture exhibition in hotel/motel rooms and video-on-demand entrepreneurs. We also represent writers, artists, animators, academics, producers and publishers who are exploiting their unique intellectual properties in video games, DVDs, CD-ROMs, the internet and other new digital formats, as well as in films and television.

We have long been active internationally and represent leading talent, as well as film, television and recorded music distribution companies in their activities in North America, Asia, Europe and the rest of the world. We have had extensive involvement in negotiating licenses for the acquisition of product on behalf of foreign television networks for local and international broadcast and exploitation, and we specialize in handling large-scale output and licensing agreements. We have wide expertise in the acquisition and sale of film, television and music publishing libraries.

We have a long history of representing independent producers of motion pictures and we are familiar with all aspects of motion picture production, distribution and finance, including license agreements, bank transactions, security agreements, completion bonds and other insurance packages, inter-party agreements and co-production agreements, foreign sales representation agreements and foreign subsidies and incentives, including transactions with major Hollywood studios and independent distributors.

Where clients find themselves challenged with litigation in courts or in arbitrations, we work closely with outside litigation counsel to effect more rapid resolution of disputes.

Every day our work requires us to negotiate with the most senior executives at major studios, motion picture and television production companies, domestic and foreign broadcasters, record companies, book and music publishing companies, commercial and investment banks and financial consultants, talent agencies, personal management firms and the like. Therefore, we are well positioned to assist our clients in strategic planning and in achieving their long term as well as day-to-day business and legal objectives. For some clients, we serve as the business affairs arm of their operations, in addition to providing traditional legal services. Thus, we are often called upon to negotiate their deals as well as oversee the documentation thereof.

The firm’s attorneys participate regularly in teaching and continuing education programs at UCLA, USC, Local Bar and professional organizations, and are active in major charities and philanthropic organizations throughout Southern California, regionally and nationally.
